Sofia Medical University

Medicine:

• The medicine course at Sofia University is taught in English and lasts for six years.
• The first two years focus on pre-clinical study and theory, with the next three years focusing for the most part on clinical study.
• The course finishes with a year long medical internship and students are also required to take state exams for licensing at this stage.
• The entire curriculum, including laboratory work and research assignments, are aligned with European Union requirements.
• Summer internships are obligatory for students in year two, three and four of the programme.
• On successful completion of the course, students receive a professional qualification of Physician or Doctor of Medicine (MD), and are awarded a master’s degree recognised worldwide.

Dentistry:

• Dentistry at Sofia Medical University is taught in English. The course lasts for six years culminating with an internship of six months.
• In the first two years, students are immersed in learning medical theory and the fundamentals of medical and biological knowledge.
• Clinical training takes place in the third to the fifth year of the course.
• The clinical training includes general clinical practice and apprenticeship and special training in pre-clinical and post- clinical dentistry procedures.
• Summer practical internships are compulsory during the second, third and fourth year of your studies.
• Those who successfully complete the programme are awarded a master’s degree and gain a dentist qualification recognised across the EU and abroad.
• Many graduates from Sofia University are employed in high profile positions all over the world – including the USA, UK, India and more.
• Some dentistry graduates also continue working in Bulgaria due to low living costs and the renowned cosmetic dental surgery specialisation programmes as well as the availability of state funding.

Applicants must submit the following documents:

1. An application form with a brief bio, your educational history, and the course you are applying for.
2. A diploma (a copy) of all secondary education with an academic transcript outlining the subjects you studied.
3. Document issued by relevant authorities from the country where the student attended secondary school, confirming the right to continue education in higher schools and universities.
4. Health certificate issued less than one month before application, verified in the country from which the candidate is applying.
5. Two 4/5 cm photographs.
6. All documents must be translated into Bulgarian and authorised per official state directives.
